Recommended Use
Essential oils may be used aromatically or topically in a variety of ways including diffusers, massage, compresses, baths, scrubs, lotions and sprays. Essential oils should be diluted with Nature’s Sunshine Massage Oil or Carrier Oil before applying topically.

Geranium has a penetrating sweet floral scent. It is restorative and relaxing with a strong strengthening effect while soothing to the mind and body. It has antiseptic properties and is widely used in skin care because of its ability to restore balance to oily or dry hair and skin. It is helpful for skin conditions and is gentle enough for sensitive skin.

This plant is native to South Africa and widely cultivated in Japan, Russia, Egypt, the Congo, Central America and Europe. It was used for wounds, burns and tumors. It is a mild analgesic and sedative so it can be used for pain of a nervous type origin.

Geranium can be used for inflammation with its mild, soothing effect. The action on the nervous system is pronounced, being a sedative with uplifting characteristics. It stimulates the adrenal cortex and can be used to balance the production of androgens during menopause.

Effective as an insecticide due to its terpine content, it is used to repel ticks, fleas and mosquitoes from humans and animals alike. It can also be used in the treatment of lice and ringworm. Many old herbalist books mention Geranium as being an excellent tick repellent. It can be used by putting the oil on the dog’s collar every week or added to the rinse when bathing. The most effective way to use it is in a spritzer bottle that you can spray on and rub in several times a week since some areas of the country are heavily infested and with the increase of heartworm disease, it’s better to prevent than treat, even though there is an herbal heartworm treatment.

Check with your vet before using essential oils on cats.
