Clary Sage shares many of the properties of Sage but contains a far lower proportion of thujone. It is, therefore, a much safer essential oil. It does not present the risk of toxicity associated with the high level of thujone in Sage.

Clary Sage should not be used with alcohol as it can produce an exaggerated state of intoxication. This may be followed by equally unpleasant dreams and a hang-over. The essential oil can make concentration difficult. It is best to avoid Clary Sage if someone is going to be driving or needs concentration and fine motor skills.
